Welcome to Hearthfolk.

Join us by the fire for a while.

Who We Are

We are an online space to explore your own personal relationship to the natural world, and what it means to be at home within it. With a respect for ancestral traditions and an appreciation for contemporary science, we hope you can find your place here.

Local to the Southeastern Michigan area? You can also join us for in-person events, including the Hearthfolk Book Club. We hope to see you soon!

Why Hearthfolk?

Hearths represent the physical and spiritual center of home life: a place where meals were prepared, clothes were washed, and stories were told with gathered friends. The uses of the hearth would change based on the time of year, a reflection of seasonality and the household’s tie to the land.

Most homes no longer have a physical hearth — but the sentiment remains. Regardless of our history, we are all folk of the hearth.

Everyone has a fire within them.

Has yours burned down to the coals? Do you need inspiration to rekindle once more? Your inner hearth deserves tending: as you feed it, she’ll feed you too.
